UCA Miss Black & Gold 2017
Earlier this year I was invited to emcee the Miss Black & Gold Pageant at the University of Central Arkansas. And of course, I said YES!
For those of you who may not know, I was Miss Black & Gold 2012 at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where I attended college. It was such a great experience! Throwback pictures from the competition are below... feel free to giggle a little, I did lol (boy am I getting old........)
The Miss Black & Gold pageant is hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. If you're unfamiliar with Black fraternity and sororities now would be a good time to search google lol. The pageant is a great way for young women to develop self confidence, public speaking skills, and countless other valuable life necessities. It can also help get your feet wet if you desire to compete in larger state or national competitions.
If you attend a college or university that has this pageant yearly and have thought about participating... go for it! Also feel free to reach out if you've got any questions.
Although my pageantry history is extensive, I've never emceed an entire competition before until now. Standing at a podium for HOURS in heels and in a tight dress/gown is NO easy feat. Commanding (and maintaining) the attention of a crowd is a task as well, but I'm proud to say I got through it and I can not wait to go at it again!
UCA had 9 ladies compete this year, all equally beautiful and deserving of this opportunity. A young lady named Britney (pictured above) walked alway with the crown and several other awards. Congratulations to her and all of the other contestants on a job well done.
Special thanks to Laine Berry and The Royal We in Conway, AR for providing me with beautiful gowns to wear for the night.
